I've created a clear progression of materials and exercises that move you through German naturally — not random topics, but a tested path to conversational fluency.
Conversation from Day 1
You'll speak German in every lesson. Not memorizing grammar tables, actually using the language. We prepare you for real-life situations through role plays, dialogues, and practical scenarios. Conversation is how you learn.

Hi, I'm Roca-Lisa!
I have been teaching adults and teens for 5 years and believe the best way to learn a language is to use it! We will work with the situations that apply to your lives and get you navigating them with ease in no time. Having learned German myself, I am intimately familiar with the pains and pitfalls along the way and I'm here to show you that it IS possible.
I hold an MA in Secondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and have been teaching German professionally in Germany to students from complete beginners to advanced speakers. My students describe my teaching style as compassionate, creative, and linguistically rigorous, and I'd love to bring that same energy to your lessons.

I love sharing the richness of my native language and culture with you so you can navigate it with curiosity and confidence. In my lessons, we'll use German in authentic real-life situations through role plays, dialogues, and lots of interactive activities. I love working with students who are curious, courageous, and not afraid to step out of their comfort zone.
I've been there too, I understand it can be overwhelming at times, but making mistakes is part of the adventure! I would love to have you on board.

Yes. During your consultation, we'll recommend the best fit based on your goals and learning style. If we suggest Sarah or Nora, you'll get a free trial lesson before committing. And if the fit isn't right after you start, we'll find you a better match.

You'll start speaking from day one, not after months of grammar study.
This is how it goes with every student I teach. We build vocabulary through spaced repetition — every lesson introduces new words and consistently revises what you've learned before. That's how the language sticks.
Here's what you can realistically do:
After Lesson 1: Introduce yourself, talk about your job and hobbies. Your first real German conversation.
After Lesson 5: Order at cafés, ask for help, make requests, and handle basic daily situations.
After Lesson 8: Navigate restaurants and shops confidently. Order food, shop at the supermarket, give and ask for things.
After Lesson 14: Shop for groceries, ask for directions, buy train tickets, schedule appointments, talk about your daily routine.
After Lesson 16: Describe your entire day and talk about plans.
After Lesson 20: Tell stories about your past, react naturally to situations, hold conversations about work, hobbies, and travel. You're A1-ready.
Lessons 20-25: We focus on past tense — talking about what you did yesterday, last week, your vacation experiences.
After Lesson 25: We go deep into travel — airports, hotels, trains, buses. Everything you need to travel independently in German-speaking countries.
This isn't "textbook German." This is the German you'll actually use in real life.

Payments are processed securely via Stripe. You can pay with major credit/debit cards, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

No. All materials are included in your lessons.

Each student has their own Google Classroom where all lessons are stored in chronological order, along with homework and any extra resources your teacher shares with you. Lessons take place on Zoom, and the link to your Zoom room is also in your Google Classroom.
You never lose access to your Google Classroom — all materials belong to you forever. You can also turn in homework through the classroom if you'd like your teacher to check it between lessons.

It depends on what we're working on. If we cover new grammar, you'll get a few grammar exercises plus a Quizlet with flashcards of new words. I'll also assign extra input — reading, watching a video, or listening to a short audio — so you're getting language input outside of class.
During lessons we focus on output (speaking), but sometimes the homework includes creative writing as well. Everything is designed to reinforce what you're learning and keep you progressing between sessions.

No problem! Private lessons are tailored to you. If you're too busy for homework or prefer to focus only on lesson time, just let your teacher know. We can skip homework entirely or make it optional — no pressure. Your lessons will focus on what you need during our time together.
